Maimane labels Ramaphosa a chicken

The DA leader is still pushing for his election debate with the president to happen.

Even with egg on his face for proclaiming a debate that had not even been confirmed, DA leader Mmusi Maimane is adamant that president Cyril Ramaphosa should be the one who is embarrassed for never having agreed to the debate in the first place.

He even went as far as to goad the president on social media by stating that he “chickened out” of the debate.

Although Maimane’s intention was to yank Ramaphosa’s chain, his jab at the president quickly turned into The Roast of Mmusi Maimane as followers replied with retorts of their own against the DA leader and his party.

Maimane and his party caused confusion a few days ago when they sent out a press statement proclaiming their excitement for the upcoming debate between Maimane and Ramaphosa. They even went as far as stating that it would air towards the end of April.

Both Redi Tlhabi who hosts The Big Debate and the SABC have denied that the debate had been set.

“The SABC would like to put on record that it has no plans to host a debate between ANC
President Cyril Ramaphosa and DA leader Mmusi Maimane. As such, there has been no
communication shared with the public regarding the matter. The public broadcaster wants to state as fact that one of its elections productions, The Big Debate has approached leaders of political parties to participate in a debate scheduled for its final episode ahead of the May 8 elections. Plans for the proposed debate are still underway,” stated the public broadcaster on Thursday.
