Mpofu picture with Mandela daughters in EFF cap sparks speculation

The red berets say Mama Winnie may have finally given EFF leader Julius Malema his 'signal'.

Economic Freedom Fighters national chairperson Dali Mpofu and Zindzi and Zenani Mandela sparked speculation on social media after posing for a picture with the Mandela daughters in an EFF cap.

The EFF chairperson said he was invited to campaign in Soweto, where the Madikizela-Mandela house is.

Mpofu’s caption on the picture left many wondering if late ANC veterans Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s daughters had joined the red berets.

He wrote: “I was invited to do a door-to-door visit somewhere in Orlando West… April is going to be a rather difficult month but these two voters are.. almost in the bag? Watch this space!”

Today marks a year since Madikizela-Mandela passed on.

EFF leader Julius Malema addressed the crowd at Madikizela-Mandela’s funeral and asked her for a “signal” on how to deal with those who had betrayed her and denied her the honour she deserved for being a struggle stalwart.

Now EFF supporters say the red berets may have finally received their signal after being invited to campaign at her house.

Social media users could not help but speculate if the Mandela daughters were jumping ship, while others predicted that the ANC would soon also campaign at Madikizela-Mandela’s house and post pictures on social media for “damage control”.

Twitter user Chale wrote: “Congrats to Dali for managing to win two votes for eff, these are significant votes, it’s unfortunate that the ANC has lost these high profile votes, however the ANC wins, in a sense that its principle of a Democratic society is slowly being realised,” while @Dave wrote: “Posing wearing red cap means absolutely nothing but grandstanding on a high scale.”
