Mbalula defends Khune on leaked ‘drunk video’, calls it harassment

The goalkeeper will miss out on this season's action due to a shoulder injury.

The ANC’s election head Fikile Mbalula has come out in defence of South Africa’s number one goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune after a video of him allegedly drunk was leaked on social media.

The video trended this week, although Mbalula appears to think nothing wrong was going on in the video. He objected to the criticism Khune was receiving on social media and said the goalkeeper was an adult who was clearly being harassed.

“But this is [an] invasion of private space and harassment of Itumeleng, this guy is an adult,” he tweeted.

The leaked footage of the Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper divided social media’s opinions on Tuesday.

In the video, Khune can be seen having fun with friends, while trying to get off a bus. He seems to be refusing to do what he is being asked to do and instead asks for a speed point so he can swipe his card.

“We want to buy this bus and Moja,” says Khune as he waves his platinum card, while his friends ask for a speed point.

Some slammed those who posted the video on social media, and further warned Khune to be wary of the friends he kept. They accused some of his friends of trying to ruin his reputation, though others said blaming his friends was wrong.
