South Africans troll the wrong Gavin Watson on Twitter

Twitter has asked the new Watson to share his bank statements to prove his innocence.

South Africans were enraged by former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi’s testimony at the Zondo Commission this week and took to Twitter to troll the company’s chief executive Gavin Watson, but they tagged the wrong handle while at it.

Agrizzi on Thursday took the commission through video footage showing how bribe money was taken from the vault in the secretary’s office to chief executive Gavin Watson’s office, which would then be counted, allegedly by Watson, and packed in the bags for delivery.

The footage further showed Watson counting stacks of money, which Agrizzi said amounted to R1 million.

This testimony angered South Africans, who called for Watson to testify next to share his side of the story. They took to Twitter to tell him just how much they were unimpressed with his actions, but the message did not reach him as they kept tagging a Gavin Watson from the UK, who is a software developer.

“So apparently someone who has the same name as me has done something bad and now I’m getting trolled! How cool is that?” said Watson, who was told to provide banks statements to prove he was not the Watson South Africans were looking for.

Watson quickly read stories on Watson and started playing along to the trolls. He jokingly provided the proof, but told people he would not pay back the money he had been accused of taking from the company.

When some asked him questions about the scandals at Bosasa, he said he did not want to talk about.

“It was a long time ago and I never got caught,” he said, further offering money to get people off his back.

He said he would publish a tell-all book but also had to figure out who to “bribe” to publish it for him.
