Shops looted as violent protests flare up in KwaMashu

Police are reportedly trying to contain the violence which broke out in parts of KwaMashu township near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday evening.

ENCA reporter, Dasen Thathiah, tweeted a video of protestors throwing stones at the car he was travelling in as they entered the township.

TimesLIVE spoke to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane who reportedly said the situation was “tense”.

TimesLIVE further reports shops have been looted and it is alleged that the shops were owned by foreign nationals, however, Zwane reportedly said that police could not confirm this at the moment.
