She should’ve built me a house instead of buying hair – NSFAS big spender’s gran

Nombulelo Mani has spoken out about her granddaughter Sibongile and the scandal surrounding her after she spent R818 000 of R14 million that was mistakenly deposited in her account.

Sibongile, a 27-year old second year accountancy student is in hot water and has been told she must pay back the hundreds of thousands she spent on buying R3000 weaves for herself and friends, partying and throwing parties for her friends.

Nombulelo told City Press she had raised Sibongile from when she was six-years old in Queenstown while her mother worked in George, Western Cape. The pensioner said she had fallen ill after hearing from a neighbour about how her granddaughter had spent money on herself and friends.

“She should have built me a house instead of buying hair and such nonsense. At least we would have been able to say this is what she did with the money. I worked many years to raise her and now she wastes money on such things,” she said.

“I thought this child would be the one who would get me out of the misery. She was my hope and light,” she said.

“All I want is for her to come back home so that I can see her with my eyes and talk to her. I love her and I would not forsake her even during this difficult time.”

According to City Press, Nombulelo lives in poverty in a house which has no electricity and she has no running water. The house is dilapidated.

Sibongile is yet to comment, with a friend saying she was keeping a low profile.
