Seven killed in R34 collision

Seven people have been killed in a collision this morning between Vryheid and Dundee.

According to reports, the horrific collision occurred at about 7am on the R34 near Blood River, and involved two light vehicles and a truck.

The exact cause of the incident is unclear at this stage.

Media liaison for KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Robert McKenzie, said among the seven dead were two teenagers.

Another person sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on-scene.

Sister Caxton newspaper, the Northern Natal Courier said witnesses described the scene as horrific, ‘with bodies lying scattered around’.

The road is closed while authorities clear the wreckage.
