Former KwaZulu-Natal premier and ANC chairperson Senzo Mchunu says he is okay after rumours on social media alleging that his car had been shot at on Monday.
“I really do not know where the rumour came from. Two journalists called me, and I assured both of them that nothing of that sort had happened. So many people called me asking if I am okay, and I told them that I was fine,” Mchunu told News24 on Wednesday.
He said what had upset and disturbed him was that the rumour came just hours after the announcement of the death of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa on Monday night.
Magaqa, a councillor at the uMzimkhulu municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, was recovering in hospital in Durban after he was shot and wounded in an apparent ambush on July 13 along with two other ANC councillors near his home in Ibisi‚ a village in southern KZN.
His fellow councillors, Jabu Msiya and Nontsikelelo Mafa, survived the shooting.
“It is remarkable to make a small spelling error, but to say that my car was riddled with bullets, that is strong language,” said Mchunu, adding that he would consider beefing up his security after “senior comrades” told him to do so.
