Security remains tight outside Coligny Magistrates’ Court

Security remained tight in and outside the Coligny Magistrates’ Court near Lichtenburg in the North West Province on Tuesday morning. This as the two men accused of killing a young boy after he allegedly stole mealies on one of the local farms appeared before the magistrate.

During a protest over lack of service delivery in recent weeks, the death of the young boy angered community members even further when some went on a rampage, setting alight four houses, some of which belong to white farm owners.

The situation in the area has been tense, and on Tuesday morning, some protesters were seen outside court chanting liberation songs while the matter of the two accused was still being heard in court. The accused, who spent the past long weekend behind bars, are currently in court for their formal bail application.
