The South African Post Office (Sapo) says approved recipients can now collect their South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant from Pick n Pay and Boxer stores.
The arrangement is only open to recipients who received an SMS from the Sassa confirming the collection payout point as either Pick n Pay or Boxer.
Payments can be collected from Pick n Pay and Boxer stores, however, this excludes BP Pick n Pay Express, Pick n Pay Clothing and Pick n Pay Liquor stores.
The payouts will be available nationwide from Wednesday, 22 September.
That said, Pick n Pay and Boxer themselves do not manage the application and approval of grant funds. Store managers also have no say on when and where collections can be made.
You will receive an SMS from Sassa confirming your successful application, as well as the collection point and date of payment. When collecting, remember the following:
Sassa says beneficiaries will never be asked to enter personal information on their cell phones or to click on a link. You’ll simply need to confirm the payout.
The national postal service welcomed the move as well, saying it will relieve pressure on its Post Offices.
Pick n Pay’s head of omnichannel, John Bradshaw, said they along with Boxer “are proud to assist grant beneficiaries access their funds more conveniently and safely”.
Sapo said during the previous payment period of SRD grants, about five million South Africans received the grant each month.
