The Department of Social Development on Tuesday confirmed the payment dates for the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants for the month of October 2021.
Sassa confirmed, “there is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day”.
“Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.”
Earlier this month, Sassa initiated the process to suspend social payouts – with the exception of foster care payments – paid to 177 108 public servants.
Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu said public servants would soon have to prove they were eligible for the payouts.
The payouts included the child support grant, disability grant, and grant for older persons.
“The total amount that Sassa has spent in paying public service employees who applied for and received Sassa administered grants is approximately R200.7 million (paid during July 2021),” said Zulu.
Any incidents of fraud should be reported to police, or directly to Sassa on 0800-601-011.
The decision to reinstate the monthly support grant comes after deadly civil unrest rocked parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July.
The R350 provision will continue to be paid out until the end of March 2022 and has been extended to eligible unemployed caregivers who currently receive a child support grant as well.
Payments can be collected from the South African Post Office (Sapo) from Monday.

Payments can also be collected from Pick n Pay and Boxer stores, however, this excludes BP Pick n Pay Express, Pick n Pay Clothing and Pick n Pay Liquor stores.
The payouts will be available nationwide from Wednesday, 22 September.
That said, Pick n Pay and Boxer themselves do not manage the application and approval of funds. Store managers also have no say on when and where collections can be made.
