Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema’s scathing remarks about former SABC executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng during a live press briefing on Monday were abruptly pulled off air on Monday afternoon.
Malema was briefing the media in Johannesburg following the red berets’ weekend plenum. After his prepared comments, Malema spoke off the cuff on a variety of topics, including the Absa lifeboat scandal, the office of the public protector and the ruling African National Congress.

But when he touched on Motsoeneng’s leadership at the public broadcaster, his address was suddenly stopped, leaving viewers puzzled as the live stream on the SABC’s YouTube channel and television feed went blank.
Viewers took to social media to accuse SABC bosses of being under the control of the controversial executive, and demanded that the feed resume.
But the broadcaster blamed the cutting of the feed on a “technical glitch.”
