Update: The SABC has clarified that this article “makes a wrong impression which suggests that the executive positions were not occupied all”.
“We would like to make it clear that these positions were occupied on an acting basis by different individuals. The term for acting in those positions was a three month period, hence, the Interim Board decided to appoint other equally competent executives to continue acting until the organization fills the positions permanently.
“The SABC has not at any point released a media statement in this regard; we only communicated internally with the SABC staff for administrative purposes.
It also clarified that “…the SABC had a Group Chief Executive (GCEO) after Ms Lulama Makhobo.”
In a media statement this afternoon, SABC spokesperson announced new appointments to fill vacant senior managerial positions resulting from the decision to fire Hlaudi Motsoeneng, and the sudden resignation of acting chief executive James Aguma.
The public broadcaster, without a permanent group chief executive since the resignation of Lulama Chakela after running battles with both Motsoeneng and the then then board almost five years ago, has appointed group executive of television Nomsa Philiso as acting CEO.
The position was previously occupied by the group CFO James Aguma. He resigned suddenly last week before his disciplinary hearing could get underway in Johannesburg.
Bessie Tugwana, formerly group executive for sport, has had her acting tenure in the COO position extended.
This position was previously occupied by Motsoeneng, who is currently involved in a protracted labour relations battle with his former employer. The matter has been set down for a commission for conciliation, media and arbitration (CCMA) hearing next month.
Thabile Dlamini, general manager of finance for SABC commercial enterprises, has been seconded to serve as the acting chief financial officer.
