On Tuesday South Africa reported 3,699 new Covid-19 cases, identified in the 24-hour cycle.
This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,864,534, at an 8.4% positivity rate
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division responsible for monitoring Covid-19 in the country, reported a further 300 deaths, bringing total official fatalities to 85,302 to date.

“The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (25%), followed by Eastern Cape (18%). Western Cape accounted for 17%; Free State accounted for 14%; Gauteng accounted for 9%; Northern Cape accounted for 8%; North West accounted for 5%; Mpumalanga accounted for 4%; and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
“There has been an increase of 323 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours (an increase from yesterday’s hospital admissions in the past 24 hours (163).”
It said a total of 17,142,604 tests were conducted in both the public and private sectors.
