The council resolved at its meeting on Tuesday to appoint Sithole.
“This [appointment] followed a very rigorous selection process which included public interviews. We are extremely optimistic that she will be instrumental in driving the institution towards a clean and efficient administration. The next focus will be on the appointment of other key senior management positions where the same rigour will be applied,” the municipality said a statement on its website.
The interview were conducted on February 23, and was opened to the public.
“The holding of interviews for the position of the municipal manager in public was not only historic but an indication of a new approach in doing things. Interviews for filling of other key positions will also follow suit, and will be held in public. We are also determined to ensure that an open tender system is implemented from March [2017]. We hope this will assist in levelling the playing and promote an improved access to procurement opportunities for local SMMEs.”
