Rand Water postpones major 54-hour shutdown

Rand Water has announced that the planned water shutdown has been postponed “until further notice”.

It was earlier reported that Rand Water would be embarking on a 54-hour planned water shutdown, which was to take place from today.

The water utility said that all reservoirs and towers’ water supply will be affected. It explained that a 2,000mm valve needs replacing on the B11 pipeline, which will result in limited water supply from Rand Water.

Residents were urged to use water sparingly during this time, and to plan ahead to avoid a “no-water situation”.

The following municipalities were expected to be most affected:

  • Merafong Municipality
  • Rand Wes Municipality
  • Mogale City Municipality
  • Rustenburg Municipality
  • Emfuleni Municipality
  • Madibeng Municipality
  • Metsimahulu Municipality
