Ramaphosa won’t be able to fight corruption, says Khoza

African Democratic Change (ADC) leader Makhosi Khoza says Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will not be able to fight corruption because he is bracketed by corrupt people in the ANC national executive committee. Khoza said her party was prepared to go to the trenches with the ANC to fight corruption.

“But when the ANC is fighting corruption, we are going to be in the trenches with them because we believe that corruption is enemy number one of this country,” said Khoza.

She said it was important to fight graft together because without corruption, the government would be able to focus on issues that matter to ordinary South Africans.

The ANC does not qualify to represent South Africans because it had failed the people in the past 24 years, she charged.

According to Khoza, Ramaphosa has to be given a chance to bring about change, but he won’t be able to achieve that because he is part of an old collective that had failed the country’s people.

She said Ramaphosa was surrounded by a deputy and secretary-general who were in the news headlines as suspects in corruption.

Khoza said information from grassroots level in both Mpumalanga and Free State, where those leaders come from, indicate that there was widespread corrupt activities under their leadership.

“We are really worried that there is a possibility of a David Mabuza presidency in 2024 unless we begin to do something and position ourselves now.”

ADC spokesperson Feziwe Ndwayana said corruption in the ANC started at the top and filtered down to branch level.

“You mustn’t only look at the NEC itself, corruption in the ANC is deep-seated. If you look down to the branches of the ANC, you’ll find corruption. If you look at the municipalities in this country, corruption is there,” Ndwayana said.
