Ramaphosa backed for party president by Gauteng ANC

The ANC provincial executive committee has given their support to deputy president of the ANC, Cyril Ramaphosa to lead them as the party’s president.

According to EWN, Ramaphosa was the only preferred candidate.

He is up against former African Union chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize.

This week Ramaphosa addressed reports that President Jacob Zuma planned to remove him from his administration. This reportedly comes in the wake of strained relations between the two with Ramaphosa being vocal about his disagreements with Zuma.

“In relation to these statements that have been made about my removal, I must tell you that when I was appointed deputy president, I accepted the appointment because it is the president’s prerogative to appoint and to remove anybody on the executive,” Ramaphosa said.

“And if the decision is to remove me, I will accept that as a decision that would have been taken by the president, and I will continue serving the people of South Africa in one form, shape or another.

“That’s all I can say on this matter.”
