Boksburg factory razed in fire

Firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to parts of the factory where the company stores finished goods.

The cause of a fire that broke out at storage factory in Boksburg, East Rand remains unknown.

The factory is owned by Monarch Travel Goods, which deals in assembling electrical appliances and aluminium frames, among other products, the Boksburg Advertiser reports.

No one was injured and the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, as the company was closed at the time.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services media liaison officer Vincent Khoza said they reacted to the call about a fire at around 7.30pm on Thursday.

The factory was well alight when they arrived.

“We managed to get the fire under control just before 10pm and, an hour later, we started dampening down the area,” said Khoza.

Khoza added they managed to stop the fire from spreading to parts of the factory where the company stores finished goods – and to other buildings in the area as well.

EMS’s fire investigation unit is still trying to determine the cause; it’s not yet clear how much damage was caused.
