Diepkloof declares shutdown over prepaid meters

Residents are not happy with Eskom's prepaid metres and complained that they were being shot at instead of listened to.

In the early hours of Friday morning, fed-up residents from Diepkloof closed all entrances and exits from Diepkloof, declaring a shutdown, reports Soweto Urban.

Gogo Thabita Yende exclaimed that the people were shot at instead of being listened to: “We are just making a public protest, not fighting and vandalising anything.”

“How they came and shot at us unprovoked is just not reasonable. We closed the streets in peace as it is even known by Eskom,” said resident John Sobantu Sibeko.
