Property mogul Cavaleros’ condition improves

The Cavaleros Group has released an update on its chairman, Cosmas Cavaleros, who it says is still in a critical condition in hospital, but has shown signs of improvement.

Cavaleros Group spokesperson Leila Daya said he is now in “a far more stable condition”.

Cavaleros was driving a gold Bentley when he entered an underground parking area in Menlyn Maine, a new shopping and restaurant development in Pretoria east when he was attacked by three men armed with pistols.

Daya told The Citizen that three men, two of whom were armed with pistols, approached Cavaleros and his partner as he “put down the window to pull a parking ticket to enter the Menlyn on Maine Parkade”.

Cavaleros accelerated and drove through the booms, hitting one of the concrete pillars, which caused the air bags to deploy. The armed men tried to remove jewellery from the passenger but were disturbed and fled the scene.

Cavaleros was taken to the Unitas Hospital.

He is the chairman of the Cavaleros Group, a privately owned property investment and development company.

According to its website, the company owns an impressive property portfolio, including the Hilton and Maslow hotels in Sandton, Norwood Mall, Village View Shopping Centre, Bedfordview, the Pick n Pay head office in Kensington, various big supermarkets, Samrand’s Flagship Building and numerous office parks.
