Constable Walter Francis, charged with murdering a state witness, will be back in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday for a bail application based on new facts.
Francis was denied bail in December last year by Magistrate Sanjani Naidoo.
He is charged with the murder of Alex Ferreira, who was scheduled to testify as a Section 204 witness in another murder case, in which Francis’s gun was allegedly used.
In February last year Ferreira was gunned down in Bethelsdorp and left for dead. He was visiting family at the time and was not in protective custody.
Following investigations, nine months later Francis was arrested for the murder of the state witness.
According to the State, Francis allegedly drove his own vehicle to transport the gunmen to Bethelsdorp where Ferreira was shot and killed in broad daylight.
Francis has been charged alongside Sameal Gallant and Wayne Wabanie. The men face charges which include murder and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
