‘We’re not electioneering, we’re bringing joy’: EFF visits disabled children in Khutsong

EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said the party is part of the dejected masses in South Africa.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said the visit by party leader Julius Malema to Zanele Mtshali Disability Home in Khutsong, west of Johannesburg, should not be seen as an election campaign for the 2024 general election.

Malema is expected to visit the home to celebrate the 10 years existence of the party.

The EFF has been holding 10th birthday celebrations in every province with a generally disadvantaged community.

“We do this whether it’s election time or not, there’s no need to lie when we are in election mode,” Mathys said.

“We made it clear that we are launching our manifesto at the FNB stadium. We have been doing this ever since we turned 10.”

She said the party will go to every province between now and 29 July, when they hope to fill up the FNB stadium.

Mathys said their visit to children’s homes or disadvantaged communities is to show that they are part of the dejected masses of the people.

“We are here with children who are severely disabled. It’s not even about mobilising or voting but we’re just here to bring some joy to the generally disadvantaged group of people in our country.”

Malema is expected to brief the media following his latest interview with the SABC where he denied being a flip-flopper and said it was a name given to him by his enemies.

“I create the political wind, so why would I go with the wind when I’m the one creating the wind,” said Malema.

“Sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs to get to your destination.”
