Freedom Front Plus (FF+) Western Cape premier candidate Peter Marais has challenged the Democratic Alliance to sell land at discounted prices or at 1994 prices to black and coloured people in order to show their level of commitment to minorities.
“State land must be sold to people who couldn’t live at beach sides.
“How about a discount DA? You capitalists, how about you say state land will be given to coloureds and blacks at 50% discount or at 1994 prices?”
He said blacks and coloureds were historically barred from purchasing land in certain places due to previous acts which prohibited them from owning land.
As a show of good faith, he challenged the DA to really show their support to minorities by empowering them with discounted land.
“If you want to really show that you care for the minorities and you want to empower people, will you consider selling state land at highly discounted prices?”
When asked if this was the view of the FF+, he quickly said this was his own view and not the party’s.
Marais was speaking at the Electoral Commission’s results centre in Pretoria, discussing the redistribution of land.
“The redistribution of land is something that you can only agree to if everybody is equally satisfied and not [when] everybody is equally dissatisfied, because that’s also equality, if everybody is equally unhappy.
“We gonna make sure that state land – we must find a system of making it available to landless people.
