It’s not the first time a billboard which speaks hard truths is vandalised, according to the Democratic Alliance.
This comes after a number of people targeted and vandalised the DA’s “The ANC is killing us” billboard on Thursday.
The party’s national spokesperson, Solly Malatsi, said: “While it is not clear who is responsible for this destruction, it would not be the first time a DA billboard which speaks hard truths is vandalised.”
Another billboard vandalised in 2016 highlighted “the fact that under the failing ANC’s mismanagement of the economy, more and more South Africans have fallen victim to unemployment”.
He said the destruction of the billboard was tarnishing the memory of those who died during the Life Esidimeni and Marikana tragedies while under the ANC’s governance. “The act of tearing their names is deeply offensive.
“This billboard is about justice and commemoration for the many South Africans who became the victims of an indifferent, uncaring, and cruel government and how so many other painful and horrific events should never have happened in a democratic South Africa.”
Malatsi said the vandalism could not hide the fact that the ANC was directly responsible for the deaths of countless South Africans.
“It is, for this reason, the DA will remain determined in our pursuit for justice for all those who lost their lives.”
He said the party was committed to building a South Africa for all – one where people were put first.
