Bring back Brian Molefe, shouted Black First Land First leader Andile Mngxitama, who was speaking at the signing of the electoral code in Midrand on Wednesday.
Mngxitama firmly believes Molefe may shed some light on the crippled state Eskom appears to have found themselves in.
The BLF leader stepped up to the podium to affirm that the BLF would subject themselves to the process of abiding by the electoral code. He took the opportunity to warn the Electoral Commission of South Africa to ask that their party be treated fairly.
“If you don’t, we will have a problem. Land thieves must stop trying to stop us from going to parliament.”
He was referring to the Freedom Front Plus’ (FF+) attempt to have the BLFs registration nullified.
FF+ has made it clear that they want BLF out of the upcoming elections for not complying with the electoral code and for stating that only black people may join the party.
The FF+ had launched an urgent application with the electoral court in Bloemfontein to have the BLF’s registration nullified. The urgent application was in response to a clause in the BLF’s constitution, which allegedly stated that only black people may join.
FF+ leader Pieter Groenewald said it was a mistake for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to allow BLF to register, in terms of legislation. According to him, the BLF was in contravention of the Electoral Commission Act section 16 1(a) as well as contravention of the Constitution.
Mngxitama viewed the actions by FF+ as the party attempting to stop them from going to parliament.
He ended his address by urging Eskom to keep the lights on and to consider bringing back Molefe, who resigned from Eskom in 2017.
