Malema’s membership of exclusive Inanda club divides opinion

Following a weekend report that EFF leader Julius Malema is a member of the exclusive northern suburbs Inanda club in Sandton, debate has raged about whether a self-professed socialist revolutionary should be pursuing the good life in this way.

Others, however, feel it’s perfectly legitimate for him to spend his money and leisure time however he pleases.

The Sunday Times reported that Malema and his wife’s names can be seen on the list of new members at the club, which was supposedly “shocking” for some of the members.

Malema’s family lives about 4km away from the club, in Hyde Park, at an address that also earned him some notoriety due to his neighbour and landlord allegedly being party patron and friend Adriano Mazzotti, a self-confessed cigarette smuggler.

Malema did not comment on his reported membership.

He also did not comment following the publication of the article, though Malema did retweet a message calling on EFF members to post photographs of themselves living in the suburbs to annoy Wits University vice-chancellor Adam Habib.

However, this was related to a different matter.

The Sunday Times article generated a torrent of comment over the Easter long weekend.
