Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chairperson, Advocoate Dali Mpofu, has resigned from the red berets and joined the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
Mpofu who is former president Jacob Zuma’s lawyer said he believes the MK party is the only “vehicle to achieve unity and emancipation”.
Mpofu’s departure marks another blow for the EFF, which is haemorrhaging members to Zuma’s MK party with former public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane also resigning from the red berets last month.

Mpofu told the SABC he did a lot of soul searching before joining the MK party.
“After a lot of soul searching, I’ve taken a decision that I will be joining MK. I’m joining MK because I believe that it is the vehicle through which we will achieve the much-needed black and progressive unity.
“So, I’m doing so not necessarily to reject any other organisation but at this point in time, in November 2024, I am of the view that the vehicle through which we should drive that unity is uMkhonto weSizwe,” Mpofu said.
The Citizen has contacted Mpofu for comment. This will be added into the story once received.

Mpofu said he has tried to reach out to EFF leader Julius Malema.
“There is no need to inform anyone at any particular time. There is no bad blood. I’ll extend that courtesy after this announcement. I am sure our paths will meet in this difficult journey for unity. There is nothing personal at all. There is nothing being done against a particular person, it is something that I am doing for my people.”
The red berets are bleeding politicians with several members, including Mzwanele Manyi and former deputy president Floyd Shivambu, leaving the EFF to join the MK party.
When Shivambu resigned from the EFF, party leader Julius Malema warned there would be more departures from all spheres of the party.
Last month, political analyst Mpumelelo Mkhabela said Zuma’s MK party is recruiting African National Congress (ANC) leaders to dismantle his former party’s “stronghold on power”.
This after former ANC member and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) premier Willies Mchunu joined Zuma’s party.
Mkhabela agreed that snagging Mchunu is a coup for the MK party because he knows how ANC politics works in the province.
