Mr John Nkosi, ANC Ward 31 councillor, has resigned and quit the ANC, Ridge Times reports.
Speaker of council Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma confirmed the resignation and said by-elections would be held in the ward after the national election.
He said the municipality would follow the necessary procedures in declaring a vacancy and would soon communicate this to the residents.
He played a prominent role as one of the ANC’s 12 councillors who had been calling for the removal of the executive mayor, Ms Thandi Ngxonono.
Mr Nkosi said he would soon communicate about the role he would be playing in the new party, however, the newspaper was reliably informed that Mr Nkosi has been elected as the provincial chairperson for the party.
He said he would soon issue a press release and indicate his reasons for leaving the ANC.
