The ANC in Limpopo has suspended ex-MP Boy Mamabolo following accusations of misconduct and social media outbursts.

The ANC in Limpopo has placed former MP Boy Mamabolo on suspension.

The party said Mamabolo, who is accused of bringing the organisation into disrepute, will appear before a disciplinary hearing soon.

The matter has been referred to the party’s provincial disciplinary committee and charges will be prepared in due course, according to the ANC.

Mamabolo allegedly went on tirade about Moloi

The decision to suspend Mamabolo, the party said, was taken in line with the ANC constitution.

Mamabolo – dubbed “ngwana wa tshwenya” (an idiom meaning troubled child), by some in his circle – allegedly went on a tirade, hurling insults and speaking ill about party national executive committee member Onicca Moloi, who is former Limpopo MEC for sport, arts and culture.

He allegedly accused Moloi of moral bankruptcy.

At the time of Moloi’s tenure as MEC, Mamabolo was Limpopo chair for the South African National Geographical Names council, managing an R800 000 budget to change, among others, Louis Trichardt into Makhado and Lebowakgomo into Mmutle Phatudi.

The process was, however, later halted after accusations that Mamabolo had embezzled the funds. He was arrested and detained for 14 days. After his release, Mamabolo accused the manager for legal in the department, the late Mathews Malebana, of opening a case against him.

Malebana ‘must rot in hell’ – Mamabolo posted

Malebana died on 31 March and was buried in Moletji, outside Polokwane, on Saturday.

On hearing about Malebana’s death, Mamabolo went onto social media saying the former youth leader “must rot in hell”.

This set tongues wagging, with many baffled by his utterances.

The ANC was inundated with calls from its alliance partners and ordinary people calling for action to be taken against Mamabolo.

At the weekend, the party took action.

Suspension from continuous misconduct

Party provincial spokesperson Mathole Machaka said the decision to place Mamabolo on suspension emanates from his continuous misconduct, which seeks to put the name of the organisation into disrepute, particularly in the social media space.

“In the same vein, the ANC in Limpopo calls upon all its members in all structures to desist from using media platforms to put the name of the organisation into disrepute. Members and leaders are urged to act in a manner that will preserve the image of the African National Congress at all material times,” said Machaka.

But the defiant Mamabolo has not been deterred.

“I know the ANC Limpopo and the Peter Mokaba region, led by Makoro John Mpe, can kill me to prevent me from attending the upcoming ANC regional elective conference later this month. They know if I attend the conference, where I will be a delegate, [Mpe] will end up with little or nothing,” said Mamabolo.

Defiant

“The ANC rule 25.6.2 clearly stipulates that the party’s leadership can’t interfere in members’ private lives, as long as it doesn’t involve the organisation.

“I am baffled now that the ANC stooped so low by calling me to a hearing without asking for my side of the story first. I am not ashamed to articulate my feelings about how badly the late Malebana treated me. I am not scared of them. Let them bring it on,” said Mamabolo.
