Mantashe says party members publicly taking jabs at each other weakens ANC – report

The chairperson says party members should focus their energies on uniting the ANC.

Governing ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe has called on party members to desist from publicly taking a dig at each other, SowetanLive reports.

Mantashe said when ANC members publicly bad-mouthed each other, opposition parties used this as ammunition against the governing party.

The ANC national chair was speaking at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Solomon Mahlangu’s hanging, hosted by the governing party’s Youth League.

Mantashe appealed to the party’s members and leaders to refrain from dragging the ANC down and to channel their energy and resources and intellectual capacity to strengthening the governing party and uniting so that it could win convincingly at this year’s polls.

Furthermore, he said that should the commission of inquiry into state capture find him guilty, then he should face the law and be punished.

Mantashe said the commission should be afforded an opportunity to continue with its work because it gave the governing party a chance to self-correct and self-cleanse.

He had cautionary words with regards to calls that those on the ANC election list who had certain allegations levelled against them should be removed.
