ANC dismisses report that Ramaphosa is meddling in who will be next ANCYL leader

The party maintains its leader will leave the league alone to pick its own president.

The ANC has defended president Cyril Ramaphosa against a City Press report alleging that the president is involved in factional activities to endorse a candidate for the position of ANC Youth League president.

The party rejected the report and described the allegations as a fabrication.

The party in a statement were responding to claims that the president had allegedly participated in a meeting to endorse a candidate for a position within the league.

“The president neither participated in the meeting in question nor has he endorsed any candidate for any position in the ANC Youth League.

“The president has always maintained that the leadership issues and choices of the Youth League should be left to the youth without interference. He has thus been clear about not interfering in Youth League leadership matters.

“Factional battles and lobbying for candidates who represent factions undermines the efforts to build a vibrant and united ANC.”

The party said the youth league was still emerging from challenging times and it required the support of the ANC leadership to effectively plan its role as a militant and disciplined league.
