ATM is bigger than the ANC – Manyi

702 listeners were left in disbelief after the former ANN7 boss estimated his party membership to be over one-million

Mzwanele Manyi has been labelled a liar after claiming that his new party, the African Transformation movement (ATM), has a larger membership contingent than the African National Congress (ANC).

Speaking to 702’s Eusebius McKaiser, Manyi answered a range of questions about the party ranging from topics such as the ideological character of the party and its young leadership to its funding.

Throughout the interview, listeners took to social media to react to Manyi’s claims as well as his signature laugh.

Manyi and McKaiser went on to debate the financial transparency of the party, with McKaiser demanding access to the ATM’s books to scrutinise the origins of the party’s funds.

Manyi stated the party was entirely internally funded by a range of church leaders, churchgoers, and traditional leaders without giving McKaiser a definitive answer on his demand.

The conversation then shifted to what the party stood for.

“ATM believes in humanism, ATM believes in the concept of the human race, and ATM believes these race issues, black, white whatever, are just a distraction,” said Manyi.

After a tough series of questions, Manyi threatened to sue McKaiser for “impacting the character” of what he was trying to do with ATM by making certain insinuations with his line of questioning.

Manyi has in the past threatened to sue individuals for defamation, without then doing so.
