Police van kills four pedestrians in Kya Sand
A police van with off-duty officers from the Douglasdale police station reportedly ploughed into pedestrians yesterday afternoon, killing four.

Four people have been confirmed dead following an accident on Agnes Avenue in Kya Sand, Johannesburg, yesterday afternoon, Randburg Sun reports.
According to eyewitnesses, a police van allegedly careered into the pedestrians, killing them instantly. Two women aged 27 and 38, and two boys aged between five and seven were killed.

Two police officers also sustained injuries, and have been transported to hospital.
According to a statement issued by Douglasdale police, the accident occurred at about 13:30 yesterday when two on-duty police officers from Douglasdale Police Station were driving along Main Road in Kya Sand.
The injured police members were taken to hospital.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and will be transferred to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (Ipid) for further investigation, police said.
“The SAPS would like to convey its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, and will give IPID full support during the investigation,” the statement concluded.
