Police station broken into, about 30 guns stolen
The thieves reportedly gained entry into the station through the roof.
SAPS.
About 30 firearms, including 9 millimetres, R5 rifles and shotguns, were discovered stolen from Peddie Police Station in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday morning.
According to The Daily Dispatch, the thieves gained entry through the roof and into the evidence room, where the police kept the firearms.
Top police officials were reportedly on the scene until later afternoon yesterday.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills told The Herald they could confirm there was a breach of security involving firearms.
Such brazen crimes at police stations are nothing new. The Bedwang Police Station in North West was robbed in 2010 when five men entered the station under the pretext of being complainants.
The station was robbed of firearms and other police equipment.
