PICS & VIDEO: Kya Sand residents protest for service delivery

They say they were promised RDP houses when they protested in 2012 as well as in 2017.

Community members and leaders from ward 96 in Kya Sand and Msawawa say the government had promised to build them RDP houses since 2012.

They took to the streets in Kya Sand demanding service delivery in their informal settlement because they said they didn’t have electricity and still used buckets for sanitation.

Ephraim Lefora, who is the general secretary of ward 96, said: “The sanitation that we have here is the sanitation of buckets, we need government to deal with these issues. If you go around the skwata-camps you will find that taps are leaking all over and the government is not fixing those.

“When hundreds of litres are flowing outside without being fixed, then it creates a problem,” Lefora added.

Community leader of ward 96 Billy Lekgotla also added that when they protested in 2012, they were promised RDP houses in Lion Park and they were also promised houses in 2017.

“So we want Premier Makhura to tell us when they are going to start [the] Lion Park project”.
