PICS: EFF’s Webster ‘shot in head while in custody’ for murder

Bloody pictures of human rights activist and EFF member Napoleon Webster emerged on Monday morning.

It is alleged that Webster was shot in the head while in custody, and the “bullet grazed his head”. One close friend of Webster’s, Nigel Branken, alleges that he was shot by the police in custody and was then further denied access to medical attention. He allegedly was also denied a chance to open charges against the perpetrators.

“Khoisan VI Napoleon was shot at by the police while in custody. The bullet grazed his head. He has been denied access to medical attention and has been denied the right to open charges.

“The lawyers have asked the court to issue orders to take him for medical attention and to open a case. The court has already ordered for accused 1 to go for medical assistance and he has been denied this. Accused 1 urinated blood for two weeks.”

The SAPS in Rustenburg could not be immidiately reached for comment.

Wesbter was arrested on January 6 in connection with the murder of a community member in Marikana in Rustenburg. According to the Hawks, Webster was arrested along with other five community members.

It is alleged by the Hawks that Webster, together with other community members who were concerned about corruption in the handing out of RDP houses in Rustenburg, went to the house of a man they were accusing of corruption, before allegedly chasing him down and killing him.

According to Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi: “On December 8, people marched to Marikana police station demanding that they don’t wan’t people in their area. They left the police station and marched to the house of a man they believed was involved in corruption. They chased him down and killed him.

“The allegation was that he was assaulted with an assortment of things. He [Webster] was arrested on the 6th of January.”
