Phat Joe donates money to shelter keeping baby Siwaphiwe

Following one-month-old baby Siwaphiwe’s kidnapping that shook the whole country last week, help has been pouring in for the baby. East Coast Radio presenter Phat Joe last week pleaded on radio for the baby to be returned, further offering a R10 000 reward for her safe return.

Siwaphiwe was found, and shocking revelations emerged that her mother and boyfriend – who now claims to be the baby’s father – were involved in the kidnapping.

Since the R10 000 he had offered was not claimed, Phat Joe has now decided to donate it to the shelter that is taking care of Siwaphiwe.

He contacted the two women who run the shelter, who could not be named for the baby’s protection. They told him they received a call on Saturday night to find out if they had space to accommodate Siwaphiwe, though they were not aware of her identity at the time.

They picked her up on Sunday morning and have been taking care of her since.

To keep afloat, the shelter runs fundraisers, and relies on the community and get donations, and now Phat Joe has donated R10 000.

“Sometimes it takes a special event like this to kind of bring people together and start thinking about the community and the needs of the community. I pledge to put up R10 ooo for anyone who would help find baby Siwaphiwe, but no one has come to claim the money so I’d like to donate this money to your place of safety to your orphanage. It’s not a lot, but I’m sure it will help in some way,” he said.

One of his listeners called in and doubled Phat Joe’s donation.
