ER24 paramedics, Fire Ops SA, and the JMPD are currently trying to save a baby believed to have fallen into a stormwater drain in Doornfontein, Johannesburg.

This after residents called emergency services, saying they heard crying coming from the drain.

In February, a baby was saved from a stormwater drain in Durban, after passersby alerted authorities.

An epic three-hour rescue effort ensued, involving the police’s Search and Rescue Unit and emergency personnel. Skilled officers had to burrow into the ground and stabilise the area around a pipe. The child could be heard during the entire rescue.

Her only ailment when she was admitted to hospital was that her temperature was low. Other than that, she was given a clean bill of health.

Updates to follow as more information is made available.
