Paraglider falls to his death

An unexpected wind is believed to have caused the paraglider to fall.

A paraglider fell to his death during an accident in Broederstroom, in the North West province, on Sunday afternoon, reports the Kormorant.

Bart Bartmann, 37, from Sinoville, north of Pretoria, is believed to have been caught in an unexpected wind at about 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

Romano van der Spuy, spokesperson for the Hartbeespoort community policing forum, said: “According to eyewitnesses, his paraglider went into a spiral twist after he took off from the mountain behind the African Swiss restaurant on the R512 in Broederstroom, and he plunged to the ground.

“It is presumed that an unexpected wind caused the paraglider to collapse.”

Bartmann was declared dead on the scene. He presumably died on impact.
