The owner of a white Lamborghini sports car was among five men who appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on Monday accused of being involved in the brazen OR Tambo International Airport cash heist, where an estimated R200 million in foreign currency was robbed earlier this month.
The men, France Manaka‚ Simon Thlokwane‚ Prince Raphael Dube‚ Sibusiso Mnisi and businessman Thando Soshaqione were arrested at the weekend and are facing charges of robbery with aggravated circumstances.
They are all understood to be between 30 and 40, and were remanded to police custody until further investigations.
The person in a picture making the rounds on social media next to the Lamborghini is not one of the arrested men but an investigator.
Contrary to some reports alleging Soshaqione bought the Lamborghini with loot from the daring heist, he owns the car and bought it three years ago. He apparently first made headlines in 2015 when he sued a car dealer to return a R1.1 million deposit he paid on a Porsche 911.
The five will appear in court again on on March 28 and 29 for a formal bail application.
Two other men who were arrested in the robbery appeared in court last week and are expected back in court on Friday.
Mosiwa Muthame and Khulekani Sibanda were both granted R50 000 bail each.
