A man died and ten other people were injured in a car accident in Careltonville on Sunday night.
Paramedic service ER24 said on Monday morning that the accident on Welverdiend Road saw a bakkie and a light motor vehicle collide head-on.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene to find the bakkie and light motor vehicle lying on the opposite sides of the road.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found two men lying inside the bakkie while several others were found lying around the scene.
“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the driver of the bakkie had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.”
Meiring said the passenger from the bakkie was assessed and found to be in a critical condition. The remaining nine patients were found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the critically injured man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital while the remaining patients were transported by ambulance.”
Meiring said the cause of the collision was not immediately known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
