‘Nursery’ smoked out by cops after food containing dagga found

The shop’s confiscated merchandise included Cannabis oils, sweets and cookies, and various strains of marijuana.

A shop branding itself as a nursery, coffee and health shop in Sedgefield along the Garden Route was shut down after a police raid on Saturday.

News24 reports that the shop, whose name is known to them, had barely opened its doors before a man was arrested on the premises, and is expected to be charged with drug dealing.

The shop told its Facebook followers to join a Whatsapp group for the latest in menu updates, specials and new products.

Police told News24 that they received a tip-off and sent the Outeniqua K9 unit to investigate.

Captain Malcolm Pojie said the shop’s merchandise included Cannabis oils, sweets and cookies, and various strains of marijuana.

The arrested man is set to appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is formally charged.

Despite a ruling last year that marijuana was legal to grow and consume for private consumption, the distribution of the plant remains a contentious issue, as this process is still illegal.

It is therefore also not (yet) legal to sell anything containing marijuana, even if it is in a formal setting.

Weed smokers are allowed to smoke and grow the herb at home, but not in any other areas. They also have to keep in mind that growing more than a certain, as of yet unspecified amount will constitute as dealing, and that could land you in jail.
