The National Freedom Party (NFP) has released a statement denouncing the recent petrol price increase, arguing that this only puts more burden on consumers’ pockets, and that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s “oppressive” decisions are to blame.

“The promised new dawn, like the promised land, is now showing signs of a failing dawn, which will plunge our country to a worse state than it was when former President Jacob Zuma was the leader of this country,” said NFP head of communications Sabelo Sigudu.

“In this new dawn, we see the poor getting poorer in the few months that Cyril Ramaphosa has been the president of this country. His government is oppressing black majority, as they are the main group of people who are affected by the 2.2% shrink of South Africa’s economy, and continuous fuel increases,” the statement reads.

The NFP believes the ANC government should have known better when taking over from the failure of the previous leadership of the ANC, which looted state entities freely.

“The main duty must to instill hope and resolve unsettled challenges of poverty facing our people, instead [of] oppressing the poor. Noting that food prices, transport and daily living will become more expensive for more than half of the population of our people who are still living in poverty.”

“NFP is convinced that the Ramaphosa will never finish his term of office if he continues with the current government to suppress the poor.” The party believes that these are the signs that his road will come to an end sooner than anticipated.

“Bitterness, joblessness and poverty, which is directly affecting the youth, will cause the youth to revolt against this government,” Sigudu concluded.
