New dump site in north of Durban opening soon

No significant disruption to the public’s access to the site’s services should be experienced.

Mt Edgecombe’s new garden refuse site is expected to open soon, reports the Northglen News.

This week, the eThekwini Municipality said the construction of the site was nearing completion and should be done by the end of January. The exact date for the changeover from the old site in Flanders Drive is yet to be determined and regular users will be notified closer to the time.

Durban Solid Waste (DSW) has in the past asked residents who spot people illegally dumping to phone their nearest depot to report the matter, providing information of when and where the dumping took place as well as details of the vehicle.

The new garden refuse site will be located just 600m further down the temporary gravel road from the existing location. A new access road leading off from Flanders Drive bridge, over the M41, will provide permanent access once completed.

They do not expect any significant disruption to the public’s access to the site’s services other than on the changeover day when it will be closed.

“We apologise for any inconvenience endured and thank you for your understanding.”

If you have any further queries, contact Ryan Papanicolaou on 031-322-2506. To report illegal dumping call: 031-311-8804.
