A submarine lieutenant, who was in Durban as part of the SA National Defence Force contingent preparing for Armed Forces Day next week, drowned at Battery Beach on Wednesday, reports the Berea Mail.
According to Chris Botha from Netcare 911, at around 6.01pm, paramedics responded to the drowning incident at the beachfront.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the man went for a swim when he got into difficulty and disappeared under the water. Lifeguards swam out and found the man submerged in the water, and he was pulled out. They started CPR immediately,” said Botha.
He said Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedics, and an ambulance crew arrived at the scene and continued for about an hour with the resuscitation.
