Multiple motor vehicle accidents on PTA’s slippery wet roads

Paramedics in the City of Tshwane have warned motorists to keep a safe distance and not to overtake while driving on the wet roads of Pretoria.

This is after they responded to three accidents in which 20 people were injured.

Best Care spokesperson Xander Loubser said in the first accident at 8.45am, 15 people were injured when a taxi tried to overtake a vehicle and crashed into a centrepiece in a circle on Maunde Avenue in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria.

He said three of these people were seriously, and 12 sustained moderate to slight injuries. “We transported 10 of these patients to nearby hospitals for treatment,” Loubser said.

In another accident at about 11.30am on Vom Hagen and Rebecca streets, also west of Pretoria,  three people sustained slight injuries. “This was due to a typical wet road and misjudging speed compared to the distance time to brake,” Loubser said.

In the last accidents a City of Tshwane vehicle with a driver and passenger sustained slight injuries after losing control of the vehicle.

“The accident happened as they approached the Pretoria Central Business District. Their vehicle just swung out on the slippery road, and they collided into the barriers, went through it and landed in a ditch,” Loubser said.

The two patients were transported to Mediclinic Muelmed Hospital.
