Following the North Gauteng High Court ruling on Thursday that gave President Jacob Zuma five days to provide reasons for his Cabinet reshuffle, politicians have shared their thoughts on the matter.
Zimbabwe’s Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Jonathan Moyo has shared his concerns on the matter, saying there was no need for the president to explain his decision.
“A court order for Zuma to provide reasons for cabinet reshuffle is a clear sign some courts in South Africa have gone rogue,” said Moyo, whose comment led to a debate with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) national chairperson Dali Mpofu.
Mpofu told Moyo that his statement implied that the country’s constitution was “rogue”, further saying there was nothing “extraordinary” about the ruling.
“Unless you believe in the royalist ‘prerogative’, Prof?” he asked.
Moyo felt that Mpofu and his party were not in the position to comment on the matter because they were clouded by their hatred for the president, an assertion Mpofu said was wrong.
“You are wrong. We love Msholozi! He is a political asset. We just love our country even more,” he said.
The national chairperson has previously called the president “a genius” as he was making it easy for the EFF to finally get rid of him.
There seems to be no end in sight for president’s court cases, with the latest seeming to be the last nail on the coffin as the EFF has approached the Constitutional Court to have the president deemed unfit to hold his position.
Even Cope founder Mbhazima Shilowa has expressed his concern over the court ruling, saying he was against the DA’s application on the Cabinet reshuffle.
Though he said he was one of the people who have long been saying Zuma was a “disaster” for the country, he said the case was “just an abuse of processes”.
“It is not the first reshuffle and he never gave reasons. They never went to court. Zwane, Doidge, Nyanda, Sexwale? Do we know why? or is it because people agreed?”
The only positive thing about the ruling was that the axed ministers would know why they were given the boot, he said.
