Residents from in and around town gathered this morning to take part in a shutdown march that was initially planned for Friday.
The march is reportedly driven by residents following the murder of two ANC members, Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralph Kanyane, last week, reports Polokwane Review.
The protestors are currently gathered at the Home Affairs Office, from where they will march on the R101 and march to the municipality.
Thursday’s march has been declared illegal, and police are on the scene to monitor the situation.
It is believed that Friday’s march will proceed as planned.
The Mogalakwena Local Municipality has since released a press statement distancing itself from the shutdown protest march organised in town for Friday. They urged residents to avoid the affected areas and roads during this period.
The latest reports indicate that protesters have begun marching to the Mokopane Police Station.
