Mngxitama accuses Pierre de Vos of working for Johann Rupert

In a string of tweets on Saturday morning, Black First Land First leader Andile Mngxitama hit back at constitutional law expert Professor Pierre de Vos.

Earlier, De Vos had alleged that Mngxitama was a paid stooge of the Gupta family and was being a hypocrite by defending Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, whose inaction on the grants crisis had ensured that Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) continues to be the only company capable of paying social grants, despite the fact the company is not black owned.

CPS, through its ownership structure, is linked to Johann Rupert, the billionaire Mngxitama claims is his greatest enemy and the face of “white monopoly capital”.

Rupert is a major shareholder in Grindrod Bank, under which CPS falls.

Mngxitama now claims, without substantiation, that De Vos was not attacking him out of a sense of intellectual independence but because he is beholden to Rupert.

De Vos wrote: “So confusing. Minister Dlamini is protecting CPS who uses Grindrod Bank whose largest shareholders is the Ruperts. Where is @Mngxitama?” He added that: “Obviously the Guptas are not paying @Mngxitama to embarrass Minister Dlamini…”

Mngxitama responded by saying that “Rupert owns everything in South Africa”.

He claims he gets attacked because he takes on “white settler monopoly capital” and “they” are coming for him.

He says, without any substantiation, that the attacks on him are part of a “dirty” campaign by Rupert, but he is ready for the “challenge”.

He had earlier also attacked De Vos for being a “crusader of grants for blacks but not the return of our land to the end of poverty”.
